IGEL has integrated the HDX RealTime Optimization Pack for Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync to provide more applications for its Linux thin clients with multimedia communication capabilities.

The “HDX RealTime Optimization Pack for Microsoft Lync” is now available for all Linux-based IGEL Universal Desktop thin clients and the Universal Desktop Converter (UDC) Version 4.10.100, revealed officials.

Simon Richards, IGEL UK managing director said, “By integrating the Lync Optimization Pack, IGEL has met the need from an increasing number of our customers using the Microsoft Lync infrastructure in Citrix environments on our IGEL thin clients. This is another example of how IGEL is continuously improving the deployment flexibility and future-readiness of its solutions.”

The Optimization Pack is expected to leverage the Microsoft Lync Server in Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp environments in order to deliver a highly scalable solution for delivering real-time audio-video conferencing.

According to officials, the implementation of the Optimization Pack in IGEL’s own Linux operating system lets some signaling and media processing functions that generally happen during a conference to be performed directly on the thin client itself.

This eliminates the need for loading from the server thereby reducing network bandwidth requirements and enhancing the audio-video quality. Users will benefit a lot from the enhanced conferencing experience and also from the advantages provided by IGEL’s lean endpoint devices in unified communication within virtualized IT environments.

Microsoft Lync is a popular unified communications solution that provides a standardized user interface synergizing voice communication, instant messaging, audio, video and Web conferencing all in one solution.

Efficient communication structures in companies have become imperative as it is considered a strategic factor that will increase competitiveness. Video conferences are leveraged by all forms of companies as it brings together people from disparate locations and connecting team members.

Recently, IGEL announced a new firmware update that integrates Microsoft RDP 8.0 with new RemoteFX features for a better user experience with Windows Embedded-powered thin clients.
